Extreme SRi 3000
The Extreme SRi-3000 is a next generation broadband access product. A Switching Router with Integrated Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) functionality, it utilizes the latest VDSL technology to deliver robust, multirate Ethernet type operation and POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) services on single twisted pair copper wire. The Extreme Copper SRi-3000 is a designed from the ground up to meet the stringent requirements of broadband access service providers and carriers. It integrates multiple network components into a single, environmentally hardened, cost effective gateway. A switch/router with integrated DSLAM, it is capable of delivering Ethernet type services with selectable rates ranging from 512Kbps to 27Mbps and POTS lifeline services to the end user. It is a low cost, high performance multiple technology platform that has the capacity of 24 DSLAMtype
ports expandable to 720, Ethernet-type operation, switching, high speed routing and bridging in a single compact package.
The network access is configurable via two modular uplinks that can operate from T1 to Gigabit. The Extreme SRi-3000 is fully VLAN (802.1Q) capable and performs link aggregation (802.3ad). All uplink interfaces are plug in modules making it easily expandable.
MULTIFUNCTIONALITY
One product has the ability to function as a DSLAM, a full-featured router with Subscriber Management (SMS) and as a versatile edge switch for VLAN operation and link aggregation. This is all done in a single 1RU, 19-inch rackmounted unit that easily replaces the expensive conventional DSLAM and provides high-speed Ethernet data rates not found in today’s DSLAMs. The Extreme SRi 3000 provides switching capability at the network edge. Additionally, it replaces and integrates the functionality of an expensive SMS router without the added expense.
APPLICATIONS
The Extreme SRi-3000 cost effectively adds high-speed data communications to existing bundled phone lines in the conventional DLC. This Next Generation-enabled DLC (NGDLC) can thus provision via fiber or fixed wireless in the loop. This is an example of a fixed wireless carrier provisioning a DS3 or E3 connection. A DS3/E3 service is typically used to provide the bandwidth needed for high-speed access to the Internet. The POTS voice service can be bundled into a single, directly connected T1/E1 or a T1/E1 add-dropped from the channelized DS3/E3. This T1/E1 can then be delivered to a Class 5 switch for direct access to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
