The Extreme SRi-3000 Switch/Router with Integrated DSLAM is a local loop access system that ties together optical Gigabit Ethernet, T3, E3 and high-speed, long reach VDSL copper platforms, well suited for fixed-point wireless and FITL. It is a switch/router with a unique architecture to deliver Low Cost, integrated, Subscriber Line Access. It delivers Ethernet type services from 1 to 27Mbps to the end user along with POTS over existing copper pairs. On the network side, it is capable of uplinks that operate from T1 to Gigabit rates. This product integrates the capacity of 8 to 24 DSLAM ports, Ethernet type operation, Ethernet switching and high speed routing in a single package at extremely competitive per port prices. Units can be daisy-chained to 168 ports in 7U-rack height. It is fully VLAN-capable and performs 802.3ad link aggregation. It is ATM compatible, and easily managed via the Extreme Element Management System (EEMS) and TL1 command line interface. All of this is in a single 1U rack unit that will replace the expensive DSLAM, up-integrate and replace the disparate Subscriber Management System (SMS) to provide Ethernet data rates and a cost structure not found in the industry today.
Typical applications are in rural network and underserved subscribers. The Extreme SRi 3000 provides Ethernet speed access using robust
VDSL technology over existing copper wire. Its ideal for Remote Terminal installations where it meets the most rigorous and challenging environmental
conditions. When teamed with fixed wireless DS3 access, it can extend the Central Office to areas that could not be serviced in the past. Flexible uplink
options include: Dual DS3, Single/Dual 100/1000 Ethernet over Fiber, IP video and wireless (802.11a) Ethernet. The uplink modules are easily
configurable via the front panel.

MxU services: The Extreme SRi 3000 is also ideal for Multi Tenant and Multi Dwelling environments. It can operate over existing copper plant thereby eliminating the requirement of pulling new cable, which can be very costly. It provides high-speed communications and POTS. It is easy to deploy with DS3 or multiple T1 interfaces. This is ideal for hotel environments since it will use existing copper pairs (CAT3) and still provide regular telephone services over the same pair. Small campus environments are also ideal applications since it can transmit multi megabit data over existing copper up to 4000 feet/1200 meters. Its low cost per port makes it available to smaller operators where cost is always an issue. It is easily expandable by cascading units to meet growing needs. Its CO-class reliability makes it ideal for potentially harsh industrial environments.
IGMP: IP only systems or IP over Ethernet systems are transported using ATM encapsulated IP (IP over ATM). To make the transport more efficient by requiring only one copy of each program be transported between the head-end and each succeeding node, IGMP multicasting capability can be deployed. Normally, IGMP multicasting capability is installed at or near the head end and in each major router or other Layer 3 device in the network.
